Rain in Maine – Acadia National Park

In the last 3 years, my family has visited many National Parks in the United States. This June, we drove to Acadia National Park in Maine. Since we are Marylanders, the drive was only about 11 hours for us. Due to it being a last minute trip, we had to camp inside the park for 5 days, which we didn’t mind. It was beautiful there, and the temperature was nice and cool, unlike the humid, hot summer in Maryland. Sadly, the day we came, the rain started. And the rain did not stop until our last day in Maine. When it was not raining, the fog took over the sky, blocking the beautiful views we could have seen. Yet, the rain and fog didn’t bother us on the trails, but it caused some difficulties when it came to getting ready for sleep. The inside of the tent  and the sleeping bags were moist and damp from the fog, and the rain caused a major temperature drop for the night. Thankfully, we brought extra sweatshirts and sleeping bags.

The little towns outside of the park were very charming, providing many good restaurants to buy lobster and wild blueberry ice cream. Jordan’s Pond House right by Jordan Pond was a restaurant with a view of the pond, where they serve their famous popovers. They were a bit overpriced, but definitely worth trying with their famous tea and strawberry jam. ( They are also very easy to make at home with a good recipe. ) There were many different trails to go on, everything from an easy 1 mile nature walk to 10 mile up-hill hikes. Anyone who came to the park could find a trail for them, even if they were planning to ride horseback or bike (which is very popular and there are many bike rentals in town). Overall, our trip to Maine was a big success and we are planning to visit again very soon. Maine was beautiful, especially during the summer. Acadia National Park is a place you cannot just visit once, I highly recommend it for people of all ages and physical ability.

Please enjoy a slide show of photographs from the gorgeous Acadia landscape. All photos taken by yours truly.  🙂
